The Zoo

There was no hiding place as they bombed our books.

Then destroyed the U.N. building storing our food.

Then the hospitals were hit with U.S.-made rockets.

My uncle, my mother, father, our home are all blood-stained rocks.

And my Gaza Zoo, with the terrified lions freed by the shelling of their cage.

Finally, they were locked in some bathroom to keep them safe.

Those who survived in the zoo ate those who did not.
