Houdini in the Charles

Once you know the trick
you can get out of anything.
A school of fish slows down
to observe him free himself
from the last of the chains,
or so he thinks, wishing there
were tricks the fish might
learn to not get lured into nets
or bite into the hook. As he swims
to the surface, the fish are right
under his feet, close enough to hear
cheers from the crowd, the sun
exposing the sheen of their skin too.
